Longest electrified railway tunnel in India commissioned

i. The South Central Railway has commissioned the longest electrified tunnel of India

ii. The tunnel which is between Cherlopalli and Rapuru stations is 6.6 km long, is built at a total cost of ₹460 crore. 

iii. The horse shoe shaped tunnel is of 6.5 metres height with ballastless track and LED lighting provided at 10 metre intervals inside.

Army Chief releases Kargil Tribute Song

i. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has released a Kargil Tribute Song to honour, salute and pay homage to the Kargil martyrs and war veterans

 New Railway Zone Announced For Andhra Pradesh


i. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced a new railway zone for Andhra Pradesh,that is the Southern Coast Railway and it will be headquartered in Visakhapatnam.

ii. It will be the 18th zone in the country. The new zone will comprise the existing Guntakal, Guntur and Vijayawada divisions that currently fall under the South Central Railway. The cost of creating infrastructure for a new zone is around Rs. 205 crore.

table for his room. His father Nitin was not allowing him to buy it. Puneet visited Mr. Gupta’s Shop and offered to buy a study table for 5000/- rupees. Mr. Gupta looked at Puneet and realized that Puneet was not yet eighteen years old. Mr. Gupta told Puneet that only if his father agreed to pay the price, will Mr. Gupta sell the table to Puneet. Puneet promised to Mr. Gupta that he would ensure that his father Nitin makes the payment. Nitin refused to make the payment.

When Neha and Nidhi were stealing it, Shreya came and in panic Neha stabbed Shreya on her head. Are Neha and Nidhi liable for the offence of theft or murder?

1) UIDAI introduces ‘Virtual ID’ to address privacy concerns
  • In an attempt to address security and privacy concerns around leakage of Aadhaar numbers and data, the Unique Identification Authority of India introduced two new measures – virtual ID and limited KYC.
  • The virtual identity or virtual ID will be a random 16-digit number mapped to the Aadhaar number of a citizen, and will come with an expiration date. The VID will not be duplicable by agencies performing authentication of Aadhaar number, and hence will ensure safety of the Aadhaar number.
  • The UIDAI has further introduced limited KYC (know your customer) process wherein only some entities, categorised as global authentication user agency (global AUA) will be allowed to store a citizen’s Aadhaar number, while others, known as local AUAs will not be allowed to store Aadhaar numbers.

2) Ministry of Railway Launches SFOORTI Application

  • In a major digital initiative to help plan the traffic flows and optimize freight operations, Ministry of Railways has launched Smart Freight Operation Optimisation & Real Time Information (SFOORTI) App for Freight Managers which provides features for monitoring and managing freight business using Geographic Information System (GIS) Views and Dashboard.
  • With this application, movement of freight trains on Geographic Information System (GIS) view can be tracked.Both passenger and freight trains can be tracked over Zones/Divisions/ Sections in single GIS View. Freight business can be monitored.

3) President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurated 4th International Dharma Dhamma Conference

  • President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a three-day International Dharma-Dhamma conference at Rajgir in Bihar. The conference has been jointly organised by India Foundation, Nalanda University, Ministry of External Affairs, Asean-India and Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha.
  • The inaugural session was chaired by Mr Kovind. The conference was attended by Sri Lanka’s foreign Minister Tilak Marapana.

4) GAIL to Set Up India’s 1st Coal-to-gas Conversion Plant in Odisha

  • India’s first plant to convert coal to synthetic gas is to be set up in Odisha under the supervision of state-run gas transmission utility GAIL, the Petroleum Minister said on Thursday.
  • “A new bio-fuels policy is going to come soon that will detail things like investments, incentives, the maximum assured price etc for the sector,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the conference, noting the potential of bio-fuels that are mostly produced by recycling agricultural and urban waste.

5) Kajol named ambassador for Swachh Aadat Swachh Bharat

  • Actress Kajol, an active supporter of eradicating preventable deaths from hygiene-related issues, has become an advocacy ambassador for a Swachh Aadat Swachh Bharat initiative.
  • Kajol took to Twitter to urge people to become “swachhta doot” and contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

6) South Korea, GCCI Sign MoU for Business Cooperation

  • An official delegation from South Korea and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) signed an MoU for co-operation between industries in Gujarat and the East Asian country, with a focus on automobile, defence and textiles sectors.
  • The main objective of the MoU is to help Gujarat-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to explore opportunities through joint ventures with South Korean firms, especially in areas of automobile, defence and textiles.

7) Chhattisgarh receives assistance worth Rs 696 crores from Centre

  • The Union Government sanctioned Rs 696 crores to eight Naxal affected districts of Chhattisgarh for three years under its Special Central Assistance Scheme.
  • The Center has issued approval for the amount to all the seven tribal dominated districts — Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Bastar and Kanker.
