What is NIFT?

What is NIFT?
 National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a group of fashion colleges in India. It was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and is an institution of design, management and technology for the international fashion business.

BRANCHES

It has currently 16 branches and its main campus in New Delhi, and other campuses at Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkatta, Mumbai, Patna, Raeberalli, Shillong, and Srinagar.Further two more campuses at Haryana and Kashmir are expected to come.

Courses offered in NIFT 

           NIFT offers four-year undergraduate, as well as two-year post-graduate, programmes in the areas of design, management, and technology. In order to secure admission in Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) programmes offered at NIFT, students need to take two written admission tests called the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

For other courses such as Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech) and Master of Fashion Management (MFM), aspirants need to take only the GAT.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes – Design – B.Des.

(Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)(Maximum age : 23 years)

    **The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

or

          **General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

or

         **Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.

or

      **A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

or

         **3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

For Master Programmes : 

Age – No age limit

Eligibility for Master Programme – Design

M.Des (Master of Design)

         **Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognized by law in India

or

          **Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Note: Master of Design (M.Des.) is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the programme. The course would not provide any basic knowledge and skill development in design as a part of its Master programme.

Eligibility for Master Programme – Management

M.F.M (Master of Fashion Management)

          **Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

or

           **Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

Eligibility for Master Programme – Technology

M.F.Tech. (Master of Fashion Technology)

       **B.F.Tech. from NIFT

or

        **B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

Section wise Topics for NIFT 2018 GAT for B.Des

English Comprehension: This tests the candidate’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage, along with a test of basic English language.

Quantitative Ability: This tests the quantitative ability of the candidates. It includes questions on division, fractions, percentages, addition, multiplication, the rate of interest, ratio and proportion, distance, and work and task.

Communication Ability: This section will judge candidates’ language ability in day to day communication in English. Questions from correct spellings, one-word substitutes, idioms and phrases, synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, etc. will be asked.

Analytical Ability: This tests the candidate’s capacity for ability of inference and logic from the given information.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This judges the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

NIFT Exam pattern 2018 for B.Des and B.F.Tech

A. NIFT 2018 Situation Test for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

Candidates shortlisted of CAT and GAT will be eligible to appear for situation test. It will test candidates’ ability to handle materials along with innovative ability in a particular situation with a given set of materials. No additional material will be provided/allowed.

 The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, element composition, the finesse of the model, construction skill, colour scheme, etc.

5. Case Study: This part will be a test of a particular situation of an industry environment. It will evaluate candidates’ managerial ability.
